Mary A. Angle
Honored by the California Legislature and the United States Senate for her environmental work, Mary has devoted her career to protection and creation of public parks and reserves, and environmental education. Two degrees earned from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, California in Ornamental Horticulture and Natural Resources Management led her to serve for 17 years as a California State Park Ranger. Her two-year training assignment with the National Park Service in Washington D.C. & San Francisco prepared her for the nine years she spent with one of the oldest environmental organizations: Save-the-Redwoods League. In 1995 Mary was elected as the League’s fourth Secretary & Executive Director, completing over $89 million worth of redwood forest land acquisitions.
In 2000, Mary was selected as the first Executive Officer of the first urban state conservancy – San Gabriel & Lower Los Angeles Rivers & Mountains Conservancy, dedicated to increasing open space in the most densely populated area of the U.S. Her open space plan won the 2002 National Planning Association Large Jurisdictional Planning Award. Mary’s eldest son is a businessman in the bay area, and her younger son is attending high school in Southern California. |
